Basil Lemon Lemonette

Lemon basil, a cross between African basil and common basil, is widely grown in northeastern Africa and southern Asia. Renowned for its strong lemon scent, it is popular in Lao, Persian, Arabian, Indonesian, and Thai cuisine.

Historical Significance

Native to India and ancient Persia, basil has long been revered as a medicinal herb. Ancient legends attribute healing powers to basil, and in various cultures, it symbolizes love, often given as a token of affection or engagement. Conversely, in Greek and Roman cultures, basil represented hate and misfortune, prompting gardeners to shout at their plants to encourage growth.

Culinary and Medicinal Uses

Considered "the king of herbs," basil was favored by English royalty for both culinary and cosmetic purposes. It was commonly included in gardens to freshen the air.

Medicinally, basil oil is used in treatments for:
